Why Gender Specific Treatment?

Take away the drugs and alcohol, and addicts and alcoholics typically resort to sex in an attempt to self-medicate. In a co-ed drug and alcohol setting, most men try to impress the female clients and vice versa. Flirtatious communication between men and women not only distracts them from the real issues, it can lead to treatment failure. Since Arrowhead Lodge Recovery is gender specific, distractions or temptations by the opposite sex are eliminated. This creates a safe environment in which our clients are able to lower their defenses so they can open up emotionally and start the healing process. Men need a safe place where they can explore painful personal issues and sometimes, fall apart. Being gender specific helps create that space.

Why Gender and Age Specific Treatment?

The age of our average client is 45-65. A mature man may not open-up in group therapy when he’s sitting in a group of single young adults who have not experienced life on their own. Especially when early childhood trauma is involved. A man needs to feel safe before he will talk about deeply embedded emotions and the trauma that created them.

Individual and Group Therapy with Licensed Therapists

At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery, our credentialed staff consists of licensed MD’s and therapists with experience and certifications in the treatment of trauma, pain medicine, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, alcoholism, drug addiction and sex and love addiction. A master’s level, licensed therapist does individual and group therapy. Our BHT’s (behavioral health technicians) act as client care coordinators, on occasion these staff will be tasked with facilitating a book study and some psycho-education – these staff members never do any therapy or counseling.

At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery, only licensed therapists do individual and group therapy. Due to our small size, Arrowhead Lodge Recovery clients receive a lot of personal attention. Our program is geared specifically toward men over the age of 30. We have a highly credentialed professional staff that includes:

  • Addictionologist
